The Letter D.

TLD / Font Airport on FontStruct / 19.11.2008

After numerous requests, which we thank all for their interest and persist… sorry patience, we have finally been able to compile Font Airport using FontStruct‘s tools.

The upper and lower cases overlap to enable the full matrix to take shape in two tones, for those who are inclined to give it a whirl.

TLD / Font Airport 2004 / 17.11.2008

Whilst waiting in airport lounges listening to second hand music from the person’s iPod in the seat beside me, I found something to pass the time…

Font Airport is an interpretation of the information displays found in, well airports, and by maintaining a set matrix, a few oddities emerge. I like to call these nuances as they give the font a distinguishing character – some may call them mistakes but they should see Picasso’s portraits.

TLD / Font Pixel 2002 / 19.07.2008

This adaptation of Trade Gothic was created by shrinking the original font to a single pixel stroke width and then rebuilding it pixel by pixel to be suitable for small applications on screen.

TLD / FontStruct / 15.07.2008

Apart from the odd dabble, we never really got around to digitising the typefaces shown on the old website…

Now there’s an online application that turns it into child’s play – so that’s what we did. The fruits of our labour are now available on FontStruct. Big thanks to Rob Meek.

TLD / Font Theo Fine 2005 / 09.07.2008

Whilst working on various projects for Fine Print I noticed the letter ‘c’ forming in the negative space of the reversed ‘F’. This spawned a support typeface for promotional applications.

TLD / Font Theo 2000 / 09.07.2008

This typeface was inspired by the work of two great Bauhaus movers, Theo van Doesburg (1883–1938) and Theo Ballmer (1902–1965) both of whom created an alphabet based on a basic 5×5 grid system. This is the 9×5 version for those of us who don’t get to work that early.

TLD / Font Block 2004 / 09.07.2008

After moving to a house on its own block, a party was in order and with it, a new typeface was developed to direct people around the new pad.

TLD / DIA Judging / 17.03.2008

Dan Pike has been asked to sit on the judging panel for this year’s Queensland Design Awards.

Unfortunately we are unable to accept ‘gifts’ from interested parties – but we do like tasty cakes – and sponge isn’t, ok…

TLD / Pecha Kucha / 26.10.2007

The global phenomenon that started in Japan, Pecha Kucha (Japanese for the sound of conversation) has made it to Brisbane, and Dan Pike was asked to talk during Architecture Week, organised by Yarch.Q.

With 20 slides to plug The Letter D, Dan took along a series of letters, from A to T.

TLD / Postcards / 02.02.2007

A series of self-promotional postcards we’ve produced over the years, from the top – a call to tour our new website (April 2005); a cross-section of the clients who have helped us grow (January 2006); our launch postcard showing Font Theo, to find out if anyone noticed a missing letter (December 2004); our shift of studio notice (April 2007); and we removed a letter from a local landmark (August 2005) to see if any others needed The Letter D.
