The Letter D.

PaD / Look Book / 19.11.2010

With a whirlwind tour planned in New York as part of the HEAT Fashion initiative, local label Pistols at Dawn asked The Letter D to whip up something to take with them.

An A3 poster folded to A6 was quickly dispatched with a website update underway.

AGDA / Poster / 17.05.2010

An A1 Call for Entries poster has been produced for AGDA‘s 10th National Awards.

Printed on thin newsprint as a nod to the typeface Times New Roman‘s origins, with the added benefit of considerable show-through, allowing the alignment of the satellite image on the reverse to appear on the front, so that the ‘X’ marks the spot of the Brisbane event.

As it ‘turned out’, The Letter D’s studio just so happened to be in the centre of the poster, so we centred the credits, with the separating ‘X’s between packets pinpointing the building.

KOB / Profile / Poster / 30.03.2010

Kevin O’Brien Architects asked The Letter D to refresh their inhouse practice profile. Using the raw/base colour idea developed for their identity, a CMYK booklet was developed with 3 main subjects: profile; people; and projects.

The booklet splits to display the profile and people from each end, and the cover unfolds to reveal two selected projects, in full colour.

QVS / Poster / 25.11.2009

An A2 poster has been produced to accompany Queensland Veterinary Specialists‘ referral information suite currently being printed.

A single pass of metallic ink was used, with a clear spot varnish to define the outline of the dog, which in turn darkened the skeleton – combining the everyday shape we see, with that which the specialist sees.

LSS / Launch Posters / 10.09.2008

As Lightspace was being used as the launch venue for Brisbane Indesign, we installed a suite of posters on core-flute in the front entrance to tell the story to the guests arriving. And we even got to plug ourselves…

JMG / Quilty Catalogue 07 / 31.07.2007

Ben Quilty’s foray into Rorschachs for his show at Jan Murphy Gallery was used as the basis for the invitation.

The Letter D produced a foldout poster, so that each spread could showcase a selected diptych, with the final foldout showing his main installation.

QUI / Poster / 14.07.2006

Young Australian artist Ben Quilty, represented by Jan Murphy Gallery, was after an alternate direction for the catalogue showcasing his exhibition at the 2006 Melbourne Art Fair.

A poster format was developed to best represent the centrepiece created for the exhibition. When folded down to a booklet size the reader is presented with two ways of opening the catalogue – either to an explanatory essay or to a selection of four of his artworks.

The four panels of artwork show a metamorphosis from skull to burger, with the front/back cover and essay panels displaying a full-scale detail of his distinctive style of painting.
